Cruise Ships

Floating petrie dishes known as cruise ships don't work for me.  Being at sea in the navy was a wonderful experience and offered a chance to see a lot of interesting things and places.  Still, our experience was Spartan, and easy to control, in comparison to today's criminally luxurious vacation paradises.  Excessive lifestyles make excessive messes, and perfect breeding grounds for a variety of things!  No thanks!

I remember

1. When the best man or woman got the job.
2. When "franking priviledge" meant a few thousand dollars for some stamps.
3. Most journalists were honest, and projected the thoughts and feelings of most Americans.
4. Politicians feared journalists, and the wrath of God.
5. The best workers got the most money.
6. There were farms in America - lots of them.
7. There were factories operating in America.
8. People worked in those factories and were happy to be part of the team.
9. When drivers could keep their cars in repair with a pair of pliers, a screwdriver, and a handful of wrenches.
10. When doctors became doctors to help people.
11. When athletes played their games because they loved them, not to make money.
12. When celebration on a football field during a game would induce swift, nearly invisible retribution, and the celebration stopped.
13. When hair long enough to protrude under a football helmet was a bigger target than a bullseye.
14. Morning meant looking at our flag, and thinking about our freedom and what it means.
15. English was the language of the land.
